Bundi just 40 km from Kota is a small scenic town. One of the uncharted cities with an ironic past wealth. Once a part of Kota, it was governed by the Had Chauhan - an offshoots of the famous Chauhan clan who ruled Delhi and Ajmer. In 1194 AD when Prithvi Raj Chauhan was beaten by Sultan Mohamed Gouri, some Chauhan noble’s seeked shelter in Mewar and became associated to the Rana while other young soldiers moved towards the Chambal valley and overwhelmed the Meena and Bhil tribal - thus founding their own kingdom of Hadhoti. Later, two branches of Hadas formed two distinct states of Kota and Bundi, on either side of the River Chambal. Bundi is encircled by the great Aravali valley range on the three sides and is circumscribed by a huge wall with four gateways. Interesting monuments including impressive palaces, havelis, medieval forts, temples with beautiful stone obsessions and chattris with carved pillars, along with a scenic lake in the sentiment of the city, add to its charm. Bundi is very well-known for its complicated carvings and frescoes.
